Listing Magento Grouped Product as a Product Set

Modified on Fri, 10 Nov 2023 at 07:21 PM

You can sell your Magento Grouped Product as a Product Set, whereby a customer purchases the entire set of products rather than one of its options.

The Product Set mode applies to the Not Listed items by default and means that the Grouped Product will be listed as a Single Item. At any time, you can change the settings for the option ‘List Grouped Product as’ under:

Magento 1: System > Configuration > M2E Pro > General > Variational Product Settings

Magento 2: On the Admin sidebar, go to Stores > Settings > Configuration > M2E Pro > Interface&Magento Inventory > Variational Product Settings

 Note

These changes won’t affect already listed products.

Before you start listing Magento Grouped Product as a Set, it is important to understand the way the quantity and price for the entire Product Set are calculated. Let’s see it in detail.

Quantity calculation

For example, you sell a Dining Set which includes 1 table, 4 chairs, and 2 tablecloths.

  • Default QTY - the number of each particular Option included in a Product Set. The value should be set for each Associated Simple Product in your Magento Grouped Product.
  • Magento QTY -  the number of each particular Option at your warehouse. The value is taken from the associated Magento Simple Products.
  • Set QTY -  the number of Product Sets available for purchase. The value is calculated by M2E Pro automatically.
  • Option Price - the price of each particular Option included in a Product Set. The value is taken from the associated Magento Simple Products.
  • Set Price - the price at which customers can purchase a Product Set. The value is calculated by M2E Pro automatically.

To define the number of Product Sets available for purchase, M2E Pro automatically divides Magento QTY by Default QTY for each Option and takes the smallest one. In our example, we have the following values:

Dining Set

Set Options

Quantity calculations

Explanation

Table

10/1 = 10

The table quantity at your warehouse is enough to create 10 sets

Chair

 67/4 = 16

Chair quantity at your warehouse is enough to create 16 sets

Tablecloth

50/2 = 25

The tablecloth quantity at your warehouse is enough to create 25 sets

Based on the calculations above, you can fulfill 10 Dining Sets, which include all 3 required Options, i.e., 1 Table + 4 Chairs + 2 Tablecloths. The value obtained will be sent to the Channel as a Product Set Quantity.

 Tip

Read this article to find out how different Selling Policy settings affect the calculation of quantity for your Grouped Product listed as a Set.

Price calculation

To determine the price for the Product Set, M2E Pro calculates the multiplication of price and default quantity for each Option, then the sum of values obtained. The resulting value will be sent to the Channel as a Product Set Price. In our example, the price of the Dining Set is $ 544.

Explanation

Table

$ 240*1 = $ 240

After we sum up the prices of all the options included in the Product Set, we’ll get the price per entire Dining Set:

$ 240 + $ 280 + $ 24  = $ 544

Chairs

 $ 70*4 = $ 280

Tablecloth

$ 12*2 = $ 24

Final tips

When managing Magento Grouped Product as a Set, you should consider the following:

  • Product ID (EAN/UPC/GTIN) must be provided for the entire Product Set in your Magento Grouped Product (Parent Product). You can register your Product Set with GS1 and get a unique barcode for it. Otherwise, you may take an existing EAN/UPC/GTIN of the major product in your Product Set.
  • Your Grouped Product must have at least one Associated Simple Product with Default QTY > 0.
  • If you want to exclude an Option from your Product Set, you can set its Default QTY to 0.
  • If the Set Option has Default QTY = 0 or it isn’t marked in a checkbox, its price and QTY value will be ignored when calculating the total for the entire Product Set.
  • To determine how many Sets you can create, you should consider both the Magento QTY and Default QTY of each product included in the Product Set.
  • If at least one Set Option is Out of stock, Disabled, or Magento QTY <= 0,  your Groped product will be automatically Stopped on the Channel.
  • When a Channel order is placed and imported to Magento, the quantity value for each Associated Simple Product will be taken from the relevant Default QTY field in Grouped Product.
  • Order will be marked as Shipped only after you ship all the options (and their declared quantities) of your Product Set.
